Location
Mount Hope is a historic neighbourhood in north-central Kitchener that dates back to the early 20th century. This area is experiencing significant transformation, highlighted by the new rail underpass, the LRT, and Google’s Canadian headquarters, which all signal a promising future for the community.
Despite the fast-paced development, mainly along King Street, Mount Hope maintains a peaceful and quiet atmosphere with a strong sense of community. The neighbourhood offers easy access to the LRT, Via Rail, and GO trains, making commuting to Toronto a viable option. For drivers, the expressway is just five minutes away, and you can reach the 401 in about 25 minutes.
Amenities
Mount Hope’s central location is ideal for enjoying a night out in Kitchener or Waterloo, with plenty of activities and a variety of grocery stores to suit all tastes. Public schools are conveniently located, while Catholic schools are a bit further away. The area primarily consists of single-detached homes from the 1920s to the 1950s, along with some low-rise apartments and triplexes. King Street features a mix of older commercial properties and new developments. The former Ontario Die Company on Moore Street has been demolished to make way for 242 units of apartments and stacked townhouses, with construction already well underway and foundations expected to be poured later this year.
The neighbourhood’s appeal, particularly along the LRT route, continues to grow, especially with Google’s presence adding to Mount Hope’s allure. The future looks bright for this vibrant community.
