Location
Doon South, located in the southern part of Kitchener, is one of the city’s newest neighbourhoods, though it has deep historical roots in the Waterloo Region. Originally part of the small village of Doon, settled in the early 19th century, this area was absorbed into Kitchener years ago. Until the late 1990s, Doon South remained largely undeveloped. Since the turn of the century, Doon South has experienced significant growth. New construction continues just north of New Dundee Rd., with a variety of housing options including townhouses, condos, and single detached homes at different price points.
The more established sections of the neighbourhood feature larger lot sizes, and the oldest parts along Doon Village Rd. retain an almost rural charm. The neighbourhood is ideal for commuters, with quick access to Highway 401 and reasonable proximity to the Conestoga Parkway via Homer Watson or Fischer Hallman. While there is public bus service, the nearest LRT stop on Fairway is a bit farther away. Local attractions include the Waterloo Region Museum, the Activa Sportsplex, the Homer Watson Gallery, and Doon Heritage Village.
Amenities
Nature enthusiasts can explore Topper Woods and the Doon Creek Natural Area, which run through the neighbourhood. Nearby golf options include Doon Valley and Whistle Bear, while Chicopee offers skiing, snowboarding, and zip-lining across Highway 8. Despite its relative newness, Doon South offers plenty of grocery options and nearby local schools, making it a highly popular choice for families.
